6-Week COMLEX Level 2-CE Study Plan
A realistic 6-week (42-day) COMLEX Level 2-CE schedule, built by the same engine Dr. Lucas uses with tutoring students. It front-loads your weakest clinical systems into focused question blocks, then moves to mixed blocks, COMSAE practice tests, and final review. Below is a real example plan you can follow, or build your own free in a few minutes.
- COMLEX Level 2-CE
- 3-digit score
- Clinical systems
- Dedicated study

Six weeks is a common dedicated runway for COMLEX Level 2-CE, usually taken during or right after core clinical rotations. It fits a student who has clinical exposure across the major systems and wants a focused, timed run at the exam rather than a from-scratch rebuild. Level 2-CE still returns a 3-digit score, so the plan balances passing safely with pushing the score for residency.
Example 6-week COMLEX Level 2-CE schedule
Example plan: a student weak in neurology and behavioral health, cardiovascular, and GI. Your own plan focuses on your weak areas.
- 32 study days
- 64 question blocks
- 2 practice tests
| Week | Phase | Focus | Study days | Practice tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Focused | GI, Neurology, Cardiovascular | 6 | 0 |
| Week 2 | Focused | Neurology, Cardiovascular | 6 | 0 |
| Week 3 | Focused | GI | 6 | 0 |
| Week 4 | Focused | Neurology, GI, Cardiovascular | 6 | 0 |
| Week 5 | Focused | Mixed blocks + practice test | 4 | 1 |
| Week 6 (exam) | Mixed | Mixed blocks + practice test | 4 | 1 |
The plan runs in two phases. The first is focused weak-area blocks: your weakest clinical systems get dedicated question blocks early, where the fastest gains live. The second phase shifts to mixed blocks that interleave systems the way the real exam does, spaced around COMSAE practice tests for honest, timed readiness checks. Active recall and targeted review are built into each study day.
Six weeks assumes full-time study and reasonably current clinical knowledge. Real Level 2-CE scores commonly land 50 to 100 points below a student's Level 1-era COMSAE projections, so do not assume Level 1 readiness carries over. If your clinical base is thin or your COMSAE Level 2 is well below your target, an 8-week runway is the safer default.

Is 6 weeks enough for COMLEX Level 2-CE?
For a student with clinical exposure across the major systems and a COMSAE Level 2 near their target, six weeks of full-time study is a reasonable focused runway. If your clinical base is thin or your COMSAE is well below target, an 8-week plan gives you more room.
How many hours a day is this 6-week COMLEX Level 2-CE plan?
This example assumes 8 hours a day of dedicated study, six days a week with one day off. When you build your own plan you set your own hours and days off, and the schedule rebuilds around them.
How many COMSAE Level 2 practice tests should I take in 6 weeks?
This plan schedules three, spaced across the runway with a review day after each. COMSAE Level 2 is the NBOME's own practice exam for Level 2-CE, so each one doubles as a timed readiness check and a way to catch a clinical system that is still weak.
Does COMLEX Level 2-CE have a score?
Yes. Unlike Level 1 (Pass/Fail since 2022), Level 2-CE still returns a 3-digit score, and it is now widely regarded as carrying more weight in residency selection with Level 1 Pass/Fail. This plan aims for a safe pass and a competitive score.
What should I study first for COMLEX Level 2-CE?
Your weakest clinical systems. This plan front-loads them into focused question blocks in the first phase, because early weak-area work compounds fastest. The example schedule below is built for a representative weak-area profile; when you build your own, it focuses on yours.
Can I follow this exact COMLEX Level 2-CE plan?
You can use it as a template, but the highest-value version is your own. Building a free plan takes a few minutes and the schedule adapts to your exam date, your weak clinical systems, your study hours, and your real COMSAE dates.
